The Micklers had moved from Texas to Uganda with a mission to create business opportunities for the locals. They introduced Jessica to Jalia and Daniel Matovu, two talented artisans who made a living by selling their handmade goods. Jessica saw an opportunity here, not just to support the Matovus, but also to raise funds for their adoption process. So, she decided to bring the Matovus' beautiful Ugandan crafts back to Texas. Once home, she reached out to her friends in Austin and organized a get-together. It was a casual event where women could chat, share stories, and shop. Jessica sold the Matovus' crafts, along with some clothes from her own wardrobe and spare dish sets, all to raise money for their adoption. This was the humble beginning of what would later become Noonday Collection. This first event sparked a chain of similar ones. Over the next seven years, Noonday grew from a small fundraising effort into a successful global brand. Today, it's the largest fair-trade jewelry company in the world, employing over four thousand business owners in the United States and partnering with thousands of artisans in twelve countries worldwide.
